National Grid to work on parish overhead lines through to November 2025
National Grid has provided some information about upcoming works in the Parish over this year as part of the Lovedean to Bolney Overhead Line Refurbishment. This line consists of 190 steel towers (pylons) with two circuits. We need to refurbish each circuit and this will be done separately to allow electricity provision to be maintained when the power is turned off on one side of the towers. There will be no disruption to the supply of electricity during these works.
Ahead of the main refurbishment works beginning later this month, we are undertaking an inspection of each of the towers along the route to assess their condition. This requires the site surrounding each tower to be prepared, which involves the clearance of any vegetation to enable safe access and the installation of trackway where necessary to support this.
Once these initial enabling works are completed the refurbishment work itself can then begin. While refurbishment is ongoing, you can expect to see further work to establish access routes, repairs to pylon steelwork, and engineers working at height to replace the fittings.
To facilitate these works, we will occasionally need to temporarily close some local roads, footpaths and bridleways, where they intersect with the pylon route. These closures will ensure the safety of members of the public and workforce whilst the works are being undertaken. Further details of the work, including a map, will be available on the project website at: www.nationalgrid.com/lovedeantobolney.
